Guide Dogs delivers essential services to anyone who is blind or has low vision in every State and Territory across Australia.
At Guide Dogs, we believe that vision loss will not and should not limit a person’s independence. We provide assistance to anyone with vision loss, no matter what age or level of vision, and we work to ensure that people with low vision or blindness are active and involved members of the community.
Guide Dogs provides a wide range of services that help people with vision loss to enhance their mobility and independence, and build their confidence for further education, employment and social participation. All our services are provided at no cost to our clients.
We breed, raise and train dogs that guide someone who is blind or vision impaired safely from one destination to another.
Orientation and mobility services
Our orientation and mobility services include development of skills in the use of long canes, guide dogs and other mobility aids.
In some states across Australia we provide Autism Assistance Dogs, Therapy Dogs, and Companion Dogs to people with disability or those who may be disadvantaged due to illness, age or isolation.
Daily Living Services
We teach people with vision loss daily living skills which offset the impacts of vision loss through skills development and specialised equipment.
We provide training on the use of adaptive technology and specialist equipment which facilitate continued access to information, social and community activities.
We support clients in navigating funding like NDIS, My Aged Care, and Better Start.
We advocate on behalf of our clients to make the community an easier place in which to live and work.
